Supervises: Welders, Fitters, Fabricators, Electricians, Plumbers, Painters, Helpers and Contract Workers

Azimuth Business On Wheels is a specialist design and manufacturing company developing customized mobile and modular business infrastructure. Our projects include food trucks, food trailers, mobile kitchens, retail kiosks, cafés, speciality vehicles, mobile medical units and other purpose-built structures.

We are looking for a practical, disciplined and technically capable Shop Floor Supervisor who can manage day-to-day fabrication activities, allocate manpower effectively, maintain quality and safety standards, and ensure that projects are completed according to approved drawings and production schedules.

Role Overview

The Shop Floor Supervisor will be responsible for the daily planning, execution and monitoring of all activities on the production floor.

The role requires hands-on supervision of multiple fabrication stages, including material preparation, structural fabrication, welding, sheet-metal work, interior fitting, electrical and plumbing installation, equipment placement, painting, finishing, testing and dispatch readiness.

The supervisor will act as the primary link between the production workforce and the production, design, procurement, quality-control and project-management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Production Planning

Review approved drawings, project specifications, Bills of Materials and production schedules before starting work.
Prepare daily and weekly shop-floor work plans for every active project.
Break each project into clearly defined fabrication and finishing activities.
Allocate work among welders, fitters, fabricators, electricians, plumbers, painters and helpers.
Issue clear daily targets to every team and individual.
Plan activities according to manpower availability, project priority and committed delivery dates.
Ensure that all 4 welder teams and 3 fitter teams, or the manpower available at the time, are deployed efficiently.
Prevent avoidable downtime by arranging drawings, materials, tools and instructions before work begins.
Conduct daily morning briefings and end-of-day progress reviews.
Maintain a production board showing project stage, assigned team, planned completion date and current status.

Fabrication Supervision

Supervise fabrication of food trucks, trailers, kiosks, mobile kitchens, speciality vehicles and modular structures.
Monitor raw-material cutting and preparation, chassis inspection and modification, base-frame fabrication, structural framework, wall and roof framing, welding and grinding.
Supervise sheet-metal installation, flooring and insulation, internal and external cladding, door, window and serving-hatch installation.
Monitor counter and cabinet fabrication, electrical wiring and panel installation, plumbing, drainage and water systems, LPG pipelines where applicable.
Supervise exhaust and ventilation systems, equipment placement and fixing, painting, branding, finishing, testing and pre-dispatch inspection.
Ensure work is carried out according to the latest approved drawings and specifications.
Check dimensions, levels, alignment, squareness, weld quality and structural integrity during fabrication.
Stop or correct work that does not conform to approved drawings or quality standards.
Ensure workers do not make unauthorized design or fabrication changes.
Coordinate with the CAD technician or design team whenever drawings require clarification.

Manpower Management

Assign responsibilities according to each worker’s skills and experience.
Monitor worker attendance, punctuality, discipline and productivity.
Maintain daily manpower deployment and attendance records.
Track the output of individual workers and fabrication teams.
Identify skill gaps and recommend training or reassignment.
Ensure workers remain productively engaged during working hours.
Manage overtime only after receiving the required approval.
Control unnecessary manpower movement and idle time on the shop floor.
Maintain professional discipline without creating an unsafe or hostile working environment.
Report repeated misconduct, absenteeism or poor performance to management.

Production Scheduling & Progress Control

Track every project against the approved production schedule.
Monitor planned versus actual progress each day.
Identify delays, bottlenecks and dependencies before they affect delivery.
Ensure smooth movement of projects from welding to fitting, finishing, testing and dispatch.
Coordinate parallel activities wherever technically and safely possible.
Prepare recovery plans for delayed projects.
Escalate shortages, drawing issues, technical conflicts and manpower constraints promptly.
Maintain stage-wise project completion records.
Participate in daily or weekly production-review meetings.
Provide accurate completion forecasts without making unsupported commitments.

Quality Control

Conduct stage-wise inspections instead of waiting until final completion.
Verify work against approved drawings, measurements, specifications and finish samples.
Inspect structural dimensions and alignment, weld quality, grinding and surface preparation, sheet-metal joints, doors, windows, hatches and locks.
Inspect flooring, insulation, waterproofing, electrical wiring, plumbing, LPG lines, exhaust and ventilation systems.
Inspect counters, cabinets, equipment supports, paint, polish, cladding and branding.
Check wheels, chassis components and towing arrangements.
Ensure defects are corrected before the project moves to the next stage.
Prepare snag lists and assign responsibility for closure.
Reduce rework, material wastage and customer complaints.
Ensure completed units are cleaned, tested and ready for inspection before dispatch.

Material & Inventory Control

Check availability of required materials before allocating work.
Raise timely material requirements with procurement or stores.
Verify materials issued against approved specifications and quantities.
Maintain records of materials issued to individual projects and teams.
Monitor usage of MS sections, sheets, stainless steel, ACP, plywood, laminates, electrical items, plumbing materials, hardware, paint and consumables.
Prevent unauthorized material withdrawal, misuse, damage and wastage.
Ensure reusable balance materials and scrap are properly segregated and returned to stores.
Report shortages, incorrect supplies and defective materials immediately.
Confirm receipt and condition of outsourced components before installation.
Coordinate with procurement regarding items that may affect the production schedule.

Tools & Equipment Management

Ensure machines, welding sets, grinders, drills, compressors, cutting tools and other equipment are used correctly.
Confirm that workers inspect tools before use.
Report damaged or unsafe tools immediately.
Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
Maintain accountability for tools issued to teams and individual workers.
Ensure machines are switched off and safely stored after use.
Prevent unauthorized use or removal of company tools and equipment.

Safety & Housekeeping

Enforce the use of appropriate PPE, including helmets, gloves, safety shoes, welding shields, masks, goggles and ear protection.
Conduct daily safety checks before production begins.
Ensure safe practices during welding, cutting, grinding, lifting, painting, electrical work and work at height.
Maintain clear emergency exits and unobstructed movement pathways.
Ensure fire extinguishers and first-aid provisions remain accessible.
Prevent unsafe electrical connections and improper storage of gas cylinders or flammable materials.
Ensure proper ventilation during welding, painting and chemical use.
Report and document accidents, injuries, near misses and unsafe conditions.
Stop any activity that presents an immediate safety risk.
Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the production facility.

Coordination with Other Departments

Coordinate with the design team for drawing clarification and revision control.
Coordinate with the project team regarding priorities, milestones and customer approvals.
Coordinate with procurement and stores for timely material availability.
Coordinate with accounts or administration for approved labour and vendor requirements.
Coordinate with quality control for stage inspections and final clearances.
Coordinate with outsourced vendors for specialized fabrication, painting, branding or equipment work.
Ensure that only the latest approved drawing is used on the production floor.
Communicate any proposed deviation before execution and obtain written approval.
Provide accurate production updates to management and customer-facing teams.

Outsourced Job Work

Prepare components and specifications before sending work to outside vendors.
Verify quantities, dimensions and quality requirements at the time of dispatch.
Maintain records of materials and components sent for outsourced work.
Track committed vendor completion dates.
Inspect outsourced work upon receipt.
Reject or report work that does not meet approved specifications.
Coordinate corrective action without allowing outsourced work to delay the project unnecessarily.

Testing & Dispatch Readiness

Ensure completed units undergo functional testing before dispatch.
Coordinate testing of electrical systems and appliances, lighting and distribution panels, plumbing, water supply and drainage.
Check water tanks and pumps, exhaust and ventilation systems, LPG installations where applicable.
Verify doors, locks, windows, serving hatches, equipment mounting and operational clearances.
Check chassis, wheels, brakes and towing components.
Verify waterproofing, leakage points, finishing, cleaning and branding.
Prepare and close the final snag list.
Ensure removal of tools, scrap and excess materials from the unit.
Verify that the unit is clean and presentable for customer inspection.
Confirm dispatch readiness only after all internal checks are complete.
Support loading, transportation and handover activities when required.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate records of:

Daily production activities
Team-wise manpower deployment
Project-wise work progress
Material requirements and shortages
Work completed versus planned
Quality observations and rework
Safety incidents and violations
Tool and equipment breakdowns
Outsourced job-work status
Pending approvals and technical queries
Projects ready for inspection or dispatch

Submit daily production reports to the reporting manager and update project trackers with factual and current information.

Required Technical Knowledge

Strong practical understanding of MS and stainless-steel fabrication.
Knowledge of structural framing, welding, grinding and sheet-metal work.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, layouts, elevations and sections.
Understanding of dimensions, tolerances, alignment and fabrication sequencing.
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, LPG systems, ventilation and commercial kitchen installations.
Familiarity with ACP, plywood, laminate, insulation, glass, paint and modular finishing materials.
Understanding of chassis, wheels, axles, tow bars and commercial vehicle body fabrication will be preferred.
Ability to estimate manpower, material and time requirements for fabrication activities.
Working knowledge of production planning, quality inspection and workplace safety.

Preferred Industry Experience

Candidates with supervisory experience in the following sectors will be preferred:

Commercial vehicle body building
Food trucks and food trailers
Modular kiosks and prefabricated structures
Sheet-metal fabrication
Commercial kitchen fabrication
Containers and portable structures
Automotive fabrication
Special-purpose vehicles
Industrial equipment fabrication
Interior fit-out and retail fixtures

Educational Qualification

Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, Welding, Fitter Trade, Production Engineering or a related discipline.
Additional certification in welding, industrial safety or production supervision will be an advantage.
Candidates with extensive hands-on fabrication and supervisory experience may be considered irrespective of formal qualifications.

Authority & Accountability

The Shop Floor Supervisor will be authorized to:

Allocate daily work among production teams.
Reassign manpower according to approved project priorities.
Stop unsafe or technically incorrect work.
Reject visibly defective workmanship for correction.
Request material, drawing or technical clarification.
Escalate worker misconduct, poor performance and repeated quality issues.
Recommend overtime when required, subject to management approval.

The supervisor may not independently approve:

Design changes
Additional customer scope
Material substitutions
Delivery-date commitments
Vendor appointments
Unapproved overtime
Commercial expenditure or payments

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, technical knowledge and ability to manage a multi-project fabrication facility.
The position may include a performance-linked incentive based on timely project completion, quality standards, productivity, safety compliance and control of rework and material wastage.
