Product Manager – Fintech Applications

We are seeking a Product Manager with a strong backend development background to lead the development of our fintech applications, driving product innovation in collaboration with key financial ecosystems such as NPCI, TPAP, PPI, UPI, IMPS, NEFT, AEPS, and more.
Job Overview:
As the Product Manager for fintech applications, you will oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle, from ideation to execution, focusing on backend development for web payment platforms.
You will collaborate closely with engineering, business, compliance, and external partners (NPCI, banks, TPAP) to build and enhance scalable, secure payment systems like UPI Switch and Payment Gateway applications.
Your experience in backend development, especially in payment systems and integration with various financial services like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, PPI, Wallets, and AEPS, will be key to delivering high-quality products that meet regulatory and market demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Strategy and Vision:
- Define the product vision, roadmap, and strategy for web-based payment solutions.
- Ensure seamless integration with financial technologies like UPI, NPCI's UPI Switch, PPI, Wallet, IMPS, NEFT, AEPS, and Offline UPI.
- Analyse market trends, customer feedback, and competitor offerings to innovate and stay ahead in the fintech space.
- Work with stakeholders to align product vision with regulatory requirements and organizational goals.
- Product Development and Backend Focus:
- Lead the technical product development process with a focus on backend architecture and scalable payment systems.
- Oversee the design and development of APIs, server-side logic, and integrations with third-party payment platforms (NPCI, TPAP).
- Collaborate with developers to ensure efficient, secure, and high-performance payment processing.
- Ensure seamless communication between frontend and backend teams for smooth product execution.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams (engineering, business, compliance, marketing) to define product specifications and deliverables.
- Coordinate with external partners (NPCI, banks, TPAP) to ensure product compliance and technical certification for payment gateways and systems.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulators and third-party payment service providers.
- Compliance and Regulatory Management:
- Ensure product compliance with financial regulations from RBI, NPCI, and other governing bodies.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes impacting UPI, PPI, AEPS, NEFT, IMPS, and other payment systems.
- Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure alignment with national payment policies.
- Product Optimization:
- Continuously improve web-based fintech applications by integrating new features, optimizing performance, and enhancing security.
- Analyse user data and payment transaction patterns to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
- Use a data-driven approach to prioritize new features and improvements for enhanced product functionality.
- Customer-Centric Design:
- Understand user pain points and create intuitive, user-friendly web payment applications.
- Implement best practices in security, performance, and scalability to ensure high availability and reliability of payment systems.
- Define KPIs to measure product success and drive customer adoption.
- Product Launch and Marketing:
- Develop go-to-market strategies for new features and enhancements in collaboration with marketing and business development teams.
- Ensure that all product features are well-documented, and internal teams (sales, support) are trained for smooth product rollouts.
- Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams (engineers, designers, and marketers) in delivering high-quality products on time.
- Drive Agile product development practices, ensuring quick iterations and feedback loops.
- Partnership Management:
- Foster relationships with external partners, such as banks, payment aggregators, and financial service providers, to enable smooth integration and scaling.
- Coordinate with NPCI, TPAP, and PPI providers for certifications and product approvals.
Professional qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - Experience:
- 7+ years of experience as a Product Manager in the fintech domain, with significant backend development experience.
- Strong background in developing and managing web and mobile based payment applications and backend systems.
- Hands-on experience working on UPI Switch
- Strong background knowledge about use cases of NPCI, TPAP, PPI, Wallet, IMPS, NEFT, AEPS, and Offline UPI.
- Technical Skills:
- Proven expertise in backend development (Node.js, Spring Boot, Java, Python, etc.) and API design for financial services, using Java and JavaScript.
- Experience with payment gateway integrations and large-scale transaction systems.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for hosting secure and scalable fintech solutions.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to product management.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure product compliance.
Good to have skills:
- Experience collaborating with NPCI, TPAP, and other regulators.
- Understanding of RBI guidelines for digital payments.
- Prior experience as a backend developer working on financial technologies.
