Role Purpose

The Assistant Manager – Warehouse Operations will act as the overall Shift In-Charge and will be responsible for smooth end-to-end warehouse operations during the assigned shift.

The role will coordinate and control all operational functions:

Inbound → Putaway → Inventory → Replenishment → Picking → Dispatch

The position will be accountable for shift productivity, manpower utilization, SLA achievement, inventory discipline, operational quality, safety and timely escalation of issues.

Key Responsibilities

1. Overall Shift Management

• Take complete ownership of warehouse operations during the assigned shift.
• Conduct proper shift handover/takeover with the previous and next Shift Manager.
• Review pending workload, manpower availability, equipment status and operational priorities at the beginning of every shift.
• Conduct pre-shift briefing/KYT with department teams.
• Ensure all departments start operations as per scheduled shift timing.
• Conduct regular floor/Gemba rounds and resolve operational bottlenecks.
• Maintain operational discipline throughout the shift.

2. Inbound Operations

• Monitor vehicle reporting, dock allocation, unloading and receiving.
• Ensure timely GRN and system inward.
• Monitor inbound TAT and Dock-to-Stock performance.
• Ensure shortages, excesses and damages are identified and escalated.
• Prevent accumulation of inbound backlog.

3. Putaway & Replenishment

• Monitor putaway ageing and backlog.
• Ensure timely movement of received inventory to designated storage locations.
• Ensure fast-moving SKUs are adequately replenished.
• Coordinate between Putaway, Inventory and Picking teams to prevent stock availability issues.
• Monitor bin/location utilization and housekeeping.

4. Inventory Control

• Ensure physical and system inventory discipline during the shift.
• Monitor wrong-bin, missing SKU, shortage and inventory discrepancy cases.
• Ensure cycle count/reconciliation activities are carried out as planned.
• Escalate significant inventory variances immediately.
• Ensure damaged/non-saleable inventory is properly segregated.

5. Picking Operations

• Monitor order volume against available manpower.
• Track picking productivity and order ageing.
• Ensure picking SLA is maintained throughout the shift.
• Monitor wrong pick, short pick and missed pick.
• Reallocate manpower based on order load and hourly productivity.
• Coordinate replenishment for fast-moving SKU shortages.

6. Dispatch Operations

• Monitor order consolidation, staging and dispatch.
• Ensure dispatch cut-off/SLA achievement.
• Monitor vehicle/dock availability and loading TAT.
• Ensure no avoidable order remains pending at shift closure.
• Monitor wrong dispatch, damages and misrouting.
• Coordinate closely with transport/last-mile teams.

Manpower & Productivity Management

• Prepare shift-wise manpower deployment across all departments.
• Verify actual attendance against planned manpower.
• Monitor absenteeism and arrange manpower balancing wherever required.
• Move manpower between departments based on workload and operational priorities.
• Track department-wise and individual productivity.
• Ensure supervisors/team leaders maintain operational discipline.
• Control unauthorized overtime and unproductive manpower.
• Ensure adequate manpower availability during peak hours.

Shift MIS & Reporting

The Assistant Manager will prepare/share a Shift Closure Report covering:

• Opening and closing backlog
• Inbound received vs. processed
• GRN pending
• Putaway completed and pending
• Inventory issues/discrepancies
• Orders received vs. picked
• Picking productivity
• Orders dispatched vs. pending
• SLA achievement
• Manpower planned vs. present
• Department-wise productivity
• Absenteeism
• MHE/equipment downtime
• System/WMS issues
• Safety/security incidents
• Damages/shortages
• Major operational issues
• Corrective actions taken
• Pending points for the next shift

No shift should be handed over without documented pending points and clear ownership.

Candidate Profile

Experience

• Preferably 5–8 years of warehouse/e-commerce operations experience.
• Minimum 2–3 years in an Assistant Manager / Shift In-Charge role.
• Experience handling multiple warehouse functions rather than only one department.
• Experience in Quick Commerce / E-Commerce / large fulfilment centre operations strongly preferred.
• Must have experience handling high-volume operations and large blue-collar manpower.

Qualification

• Graduate / B.Tech / MBA / PG in Supply Chain, Logistics or Operations preferred.
