Position Overview

We are looking for a Controls Engineer / Sr. Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer with strong expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, industrial automation and commissioning.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Siemens PLC and HMI programming, automotive assembly processes, robot integration and industrial automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and program PLC and HMI applications.
  • Test, validate and troubleshoot PLC/HMI software to ensure commissioning readiness.
  • Develop operator visualisation screens using platforms such as Weintek, AutomationDirect, etc.
  • Support commissioning teams with technical troubleshooting and software-related issues.
  • Provide technical support to commissioning teams working in North America.
  • Prepare technical and non-technical documentation as required for project deliverables.
  • Support automation system standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation, controls and communication-related issues.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and remote engineering teams to achieve project objectives.

Must-Have Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Siemens PLC and HMI programming.
  • Hands-on experience in programming and commissioning robotic automation systems in the automotive manufacturing domain, particularly BIW or General Assembly.
  • Hands-on experience in commissioning automotive assembly processes, such as:
  • BIW weld cells
  • General assembly lines
  • Strong knowledge of PLC–Robot interfaces for applications including:
    • Spot welding
    • Arc welding
    • Dispensing
    • Projection welding
    • Material handling
  • Experience with industrial automation systems and commissioning.

Additional Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Industrial Networks, preferably PROFINET.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards.
  • Experience with Safety PLCs and Safety Relays.
  • Knowledge of machine vision systems such as:
    • Cognex
    • Keyence
    • Matrox
    • Knowledge of VFD and Servo Drive configuration and programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings/layouts.
  • Good knowledge of pneumatic valves and circuits.
  • Knowledge of offline robot programming using FANUC, KUKA or ABB will be an added advantage.
  • Basic programming knowledge in technologies such as:
    • XML
    • C#
    • JScript
    • VBA
    • Python
    • will be an advantage.
  • Experience in plastic welding will be an added advantage.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronics Engineering
    • Instrumentation Engineering
    • Mechatronics Engineering

Preferred Experience

  • 5–12 years of relevant experience in programming and commissioning of robotic automation systems in the automotive manufacturing domain, particularly BIW or General Assembly.
  • Experience with a system integrator is preferred.
  • Alternatively, candidates with strong experience in commissioning and troubleshooting automation systems in automotive plants or similar industries may be considered.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing and robotic automation will be an advantage.

Location Preference

  • Candidates from Kerala or Tamil Nadu are preferred, as this is a work-from-office role based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be a hands-on Controls/Automation Engineer with strong Siemens PLC/HMI expertise and practical experience in automotive automation, robotic integration, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Candidates who have worked with automotive assembly lines, BIW weld cells, PLC-robot communication, industrial networks and safety systems will be particularly relevant for this position.
