Position: HRBP - Research & Development

Location: Hyderabad (Banjara Hills / Kallakal / Medchal) with frequent travel to research stations across India

Industry: Agri-Biotech / Seeds / Research & Development

Experience Required: 5–10 Years

Salary: 20-25 LPA

About the Role

The HRBP – R&D will partner closely with the Breeding, Biotechnology, Seed Production Research, Product Development, Regulatory, and Station Management teams across Advanta’s research locations in India.

The role will focus on talent strategy, scientific workforce planning, capability building, employee engagement, and strengthening a high-performance R&D culture driven by innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Talent Strategy & Scientific Hiring

  • Partner with R&D leadership and Station Heads to develop workforce plans for scientific and technical roles.
  • Drive niche hiring for Breeders, Biotech Scientists, Molecular Breeding Experts, Agronomists, Data Scientists, Lab Technicians, and Field Researchers.
  • Lead succession planning and talent pipeline development for critical scientific positions.
  • Build strong partnerships with agricultural universities and research institutes for campus hiring and internships.
  • Ensure structured technical evaluation and hiring processes for specialized roles.

2. Capability Building & Learning Development

  • Identify capability gaps across breeding, biotech, and research teams.
  • Design and implement technical learning programs in collaboration with R&D leadership.
  • Support training initiatives related to gene editing, germplasm management, data analytics, trait development, and field trial digitization.
  • Create learning journeys aligned with the complete research lifecycle.

3. Performance Management

  • Drive performance management processes aligned with breeding cycles, trial outcomes, innovation milestones, and regulatory deliverables.
  • Support managers in conducting evidence-based performance evaluations for scientific roles.
  • Facilitate goal setting, KPI tracking, and performance differentiation across R&D functions.

4. Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Manage employee relations across research stations and field operations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, contractor governance, statutory regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct audits related to field workforce practices, compliance standards, and workplace safety.
  • Work closely with Station Managers to proactively address employee concerns and operational challenges.

5. Culture & Employee Engagement

  • Strengthen collaboration across breeding, biotech, product development, and regulatory teams.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, scientific integrity, data accuracy, and accountability.
  • Drive engagement initiatives tailored for scientific and technical teams across locations.

6. Rewards, Retention & HR Analytics

  • Benchmark compensation for niche scientific and technical roles within the agri-biotech and seed industry.
  • Develop retention strategies for high-potential and critical talent.
  • Support long-term incentive and reward programs linked to research milestones and innovation outcomes.
  • Utilize HR analytics and workforce data to support strategic decision-making.

Required Qualifications

  • MBA / PGDM in Human Resources or equivalent qualification.
  • Exposure to Agri-Biotech, Seeds, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, or R&D environments preferred.
  • 5–10 years of HR experience, including at least 3+ years supporting technical, scientific, or R&D functions.
  • Experience managing multi-location or research-station-based workforces is an advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of R&D environments, breeding cycles, field research operations, and laboratory workflows.
  • Expertise in HR Business Partnering and strategic workforce planning.
  • Experience in niche technical hiring and scientific talent acquisition.
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership influencing skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in HR analytics and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior scientists, researchers, and technical teams.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across research locations.
