The Design Engineer – Solar will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and optimizing electrical system designs for utility- scale solar PV projects. The role involves developing detailed electrical layouts, schematics, and system documentation in line with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
The position focuses exclusively on solar plant electrical design, from array interconnections to plant-level evacuation up to the interconnection point.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical and System Design
Prepare conceptual and detailed electrical designs for solar PV plants, including DC array configuration, inverter sizing, and AC collection systems.
Preparing DC and AC block sizing as per project requirement, segregating number of SMBs, inverters, PV stings, required per block
Design and develop SLDs, DC/AC cable schedules, earthing layouts, and lightning protection systems.
Perform string sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop, and power loss calculations using standard engineering tools.
Generate equipment datasheets and technical specifications for solar modules, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
Ensure all electrical designs adhere to CEA regulations, IS/IEC standards, and company technical guidelines.
Engineering Documentation and Deliverables
Prepare design drawings and BOQs for tender and construction stages.
Support in preparing as-built drawings and documentation for project handover.
Maintain and update design templates, drawing registers, and revision control systems.
Coordinate with internal teams for design integration (civil, SCADA, mechanical, etc.).
Design Validation and Review
Assist in performing load flow and power loss studies for internal validation.
Review vendor drawings and technical submissions for compliance with project requirements.
Support QA/QC during factory acceptance tests (FAT) and verify electrical design compliance.
Participate in internal design reviews, implementing inputs from senior engineers and ensuring design completeness.
Construction and Commissioning Support
Provide design clarifications to site execution teams during installation and pre-commissioning.
Resolve design-related issues raised during site execution in coordination with the Lead Engineer.
Verify and validate site measurement reports and as-built configurations against approved design drawings.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or any other relevant higher education
Experience:
2–6 years of experience in electrical design and engineering for solar PV projects (utility-scale preferred).
Experience with design of AC/DC systems, cable routing, and protection schemes.
Understanding of solar plant architecture and typical component interfaces (modules, inverters, transformers).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helios 3D, and basic ETAP or equivalent tools.
Strong understanding of IS/IEC standards, CEA guidelines, and MNRE requirements.
Familiarity with earthing, lightning protection, and power evacuation design principles.
Preferred Attributes:
Hands-on exposure to solar EPC or design consultancy projects.
Good analytical and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple design packages simultaneously.
