The Sub-Editor (Operations) ensures the smooth day-to-day running of editorial processes, maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency across all content outputs. This role bridges editorial creativity with operational efficiency, ensuring deadlines are met and editorial guidelines are strictly followed.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial Quality & Copy Management
Edit, proofread, and fact-check articles for grammar, style, tone, spelling, and punctuation.
Ensure consistency with in-house style guides and brand voice.
Rewriting or restructuring copy when needed to improve clarity or flow.
Verify sources, data, and factual information in submitted content.
Operational Support
Coordinate workflow between writers, editors, designers, and digital publishing teams.
Track content through various stages of production and ensure deadlines are met.
Manage editorial calendars and content management systems (CMS).
Maintain and update documentation such as style guides, editorial processes, and templates.
Process Optimization
Identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies in editorial workflows and propose improvements.
Assist in setting up and refining tools and systems for tracking assignments and approvals.
Help train junior editors or freelancers on style and workflow protocols.
Collaboration & Communication
Liaise with internal teams (marketing, SEO, product) to align on content needs and publishing priorities.
Attend editorial meetings to update on progress, pitch improvements, and relay feedback.
Maintain strong communication with contributors to ensure clarity on briefs and revisions.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field.
Additional certifications in editing, publishing, or media operations are a plus.
Experience:
10 years in a sub-editing or editorial operations role, ideally in a fast-paced digital environment.
Experience working with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
Familiarity with SEO principles, digital publishing workflows, and editorial analytics tools.
Skills:
Impeccable attention to detail and grammar.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Proficient with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana, Monday.com).
Comfortable working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
